Shark Tank Business Valuation & Negotiations Lessons Zipadee-Zips, Bombas Socks, Amber Charge, Hammer and Nails Salon for Men

Pitching the Shark Tank are David Heath and Randy Goldberg.   Their business called Bombas.  Bombas is a company that seels socks that they dub as ‘Athletic Leisure’ socks.  The socks are designed to withstand heavy duty athletic use, but also be comfortable for leisurely wearing.  The socks come in ankle length and calf length variations.  Additionally, Bombas socks are made with Peruvian Pima Cotton.  David Heath and Randy Goldberg got Bombas off the ground via a campaign on IndieGoGo.  The company says they donate one pair of socks to homeless shelters, for each pair of socks they donate.  That aspect likely help them develop their IndieGoGo contributors, but, expect Kevin O’Leary to have a problem with eating into the profit margins with this philanthropic angle.   Technology in the socks include a performance footbed, Stay-up technology, a Blister tab, Y-Stitched Heel and a Honeycomb support system.

With the high adoption rates of smartphones, consumers are getting used to battery life that sometimes doesn’t last an entire day.  Charging a mobile phone on the go can be a challenge.  Aiming to solve that problem is Phil Shuey who pitches his business called Amber Charge.  Aside from helping people charge their phones in public, Amber Charge also aims to improve the experience at a business, such as restaurants, since the phones are locked in away an Amber Charger, the patrons can focus on their meal and the company they are with.  Amber charge units can keep phones secure from theft as they have a locking mechanism for each phone that is charged in the unit.  Additionally, the business offering the Amber Charge can notify people nearby that they offer an Amber Charge, thus enticing them to visit the location and shop or dine.  Thus, this is definitely aimed at restaurant businesses and more.

Transitioning an infant from a swaddle to a sleep sack or blanket can be challenging in terms of lost sleep and stress.  Brett and Stephanie Parker pitch the Shark Tank their baby products business called Sleeping Baby, in which they have a swaddle transition blanket they called the Zipadee-Zip.  A Zipadee-Zip is like a sleep sack, but a little tighter in certain areas, so it offers the freedom that older infants need, but just enough tightness in certain areas so they feel the comfort of having some boundaries.  The Parker’s feel that ages 5-6 months are the ideal time to transition to using a Zipadee-Zip.  Brett and Stephanie Parker operate their business from Fort Worth, Texas.  Zipadee-Zips are available in a variety of designs for boys and girls.

‘Man-scaping’ is in an thing right now, and aiming to capitalize on the growing trend of grooming trends for men is Hammer and Nails.  Hammer and Nails is a high end nail salon geared for men based in Beverly Hills, CA.  Michael Elliott is proprietor behind Hammer and Nails salon for men.  Currently, Elliott operates one unit, so expect him to pitch the Sharks for additional capital to expand via franchising.   Questions that will be asked of Elliott should include the how he expects to manage competing against copy cats and how scale-able does he really think the market is.  Also, expect to see the Sharks talk about the difficulty of getting a franchise business off of the ground.  Good thing for Elliott is that the inquiries to franchise will be piled up by Monday.

The entrepreneurs behind LollaLand, KaZam, U-Lace, Monkey Mat, Ry’s Ruffery and Kisstixx all get a combined update segment as they get shelf space at Target retail stores.  One thing that these businesses prove is that making a deal not as good as you want may end up working out if you get continual exposure on ABC and in syndication.
